Introduction

Service-learning is more than completing activities. It is about understanding what those experiences mean and how they shape your perspectives, values and future actions.

To support this learning process, CISL is piloting an AI-powered reflection chatbot through NiCoach, an HKBU-owned platform, in AY2026-27. Using a structured reflection framework, NiCoach helps students explore their experiences, connect learning with practice, and develop deeper insights throughout their service-learning journey.

Participate in the Pilot of Development of an AI Agent

Students enrolled in selected service-learning courses will be invited to participate voluntarily in the pilot development of this AI-powered reflection chatbot and complete a survey to support its future enhancement.

Students who complete the pilot will be eligible to receive HKD 200 cash coupons as an honourarium.

What is NiCoach?

Narrative Intelligence Coach (NiCoach) is an AI-powered reflection companion designed to support your service-learning. Through guided conversations, it encourages you to examine your experiences, observations, challenges and personal growth from different perspectives.

Rather than providing answers, NiCoach helps you ask better questions about your own learning.

How It Works?

NiCoach supports you throughout your service-learning journey through a series of guided reflective conversations. During the pilot, you will be invited to interact with NiCoach on three occasions, with each conversation taking approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

The reflections, stories and insights captured through the platform come from you. NiCoach simply provides the space and prompts to help you make sense of your experiences and discover what they mean to you.

The AI Chatbot will guide you through reflection on four aspects of your service-learning experience: (1) Knowledge Application, (2) Personal and Professional Skills, (3) Civic Orientation and Engagement and (4) Self-Awareness.

No. NiCoach does not generate your reflection. Instead, it uses questions and prompts to guide your thinking and help you reflect more deeply.

Instructors and authorised HKBU staff may have access to chat records for educational, administrative and evaluation purposes.
