Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge To China) Charitable Foundation was formally established in Hong Kong in 2007. With the support of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China, WZQ has connected thousands of youth volunteers from more than 20 tertiary institutions in the Mainland and Hong Kong. Over 50 footbridges, 6 village centres, and hundreds of modern earth houses have been built, and the livelihood of many villagers have been improved in remote rural areas in the Mainland.
Recently, WZQ has also launched countryside conservation projects to promote rural revitalisation. Through these projects, young people from both Hong Kong and the Mainland contribute to diverse rural development opportunities. At the same time, the joint collaboration between young people from Hong Kong and the Mainland promotes mutual communication and trust among them, building "heart bridges", nurturing cultural inheritance, and promoting urban-rural integration and low-carbon living for a sustainable future.
Located on a quiet hillside in the northeast of Sha Tau Kok peninsula, Mui Tsz Lam is near Lai Chi Wo and is one of the seven villages of Hing Chun Yeuk. Mui Tsz Lam village proudly boasts of 400 years of rich, Hakka cultural history. In old times, the seven neighboring villages of Hing Chun Yeuk would cooperate in farming, preparing and celebrating major festivals, and defending each other from pirate assaults. Even to this day, the villages of Hing Chun Yeuk maintain good relationships and mutually assist each other like their ancestors.
